As with jazz, improvisation is at the heart of the work of Illawarra painter Brian Hartigan. It embraces all the risk and surprise that painting in that way entails. This survey takes its title from one of his favourite Miles Davis albums. The term ‘in the round’ - normally applied to three-dimensional sculpture - has particular relevance to his work, which is concerned with the three-dimensional illusion in painting.

Why abstraction?

Wednesday 5 July, 1 - 2pm

Brian Hartigan will discuss the origins of abstraction, as well as providing insights into his own practice and the work of other abstractionists.

Free, all welcome.
