On The Move The Dion Family opening at WAG.pdf

On the Move tells the Dion family story, an indelible thread of the Illawarra’s social fabric. The Dions are a fascinating example of the important contributions Chinese-Australians have made to Australia and, indeed, the nation’s perception of itself as an inclusive and culturally diverse society.

As members of the Chinese diaspora and operators of some of the region’s bus services, the Dions have connected the Wollongong community both locally and internationally.

This exhibition presents a selection of curated objects drawn from the family’s vast archive of material, along with the presentation of new commissions by contemporary Australian artists that tells a story of migration, survival, acceptance and community spirit of a remarkable family. Curated by Mikala Tai.
