
School Holiday Workshops
Wollongong Art Gallery provides workshops and activities for children aged 5 - 14 years during school holidays in January, July and October. Artist-run activities include experimentation and investigation of various media in a casual and fun environment. These workshops change regularly and sell out quickly, so book online early.
Abstracted Observational Drawing (Drawing Workshop) | Ages 9 - 14
Tuesday 16 January, 10am – 3pm
Learn a variety of techniques when drawing from observation. Students will begin the workshop with a series of exercises to help them develop confidence in mastering their technique. Observational drawing tasks will include sculptural pieces that are on display in the gallery as well as still life set up. Final artwork will be an abstracted version of drawings made earlier on in the day.
This is a full day workshop facilitated by Sharon Mearing (artist and educator). Students must bring their own morning tea and lunch.

Watercolour Abstracts (Painting Workshop) | Ages 5 - 8
Wednesday 17 January, 10am – 12pm
Students will learn how to manipulate watercolour paint to create a beautiful, abstracted watercolour artwork. Create a splash while making art.

Paper Bugs (Construction Workshop) | Ages 5 - 8
Wednesday 17 January, 1 – 3pm
Construct a bug out of paper and card! In this workshop students will learn how to manipulate various materials to make a unique bug.

Landscape Painting (Painting Workshop) | Ages 9 - 14
Thursday 18 January, 10am – 3pm
Learn painting techniques to create a landscape painting on canvas board. Students will work from photographs of Illawarra landscape paintings held within Wollongong Art Gallery’s Collection to inspire their own re-interpretations. A great day for the budding artist.
This is a full day workshop facilitated by Skye Zaracostas (artist and educator). Students must bring their own morning tea and lunch.

Crafty Ice Creams (Mixed Media Workshop) | Ages 5 - 8
Friday 19 January, 10am – 12pm
Capture the feeling of summer and create a collection of ice cream artworks using a variety of paper and cardboard materials. Don’t forget your topping and sprinkles!

Egg Carton Faces (Sculpture) | Ages 5 - 8
Friday 19 January, 1 – 3pm
Make quirky faces using egg cartons. This fun and creative workshop allows students to use a variety of recyclable materials to create a sculpture. Students will learn assemblage and joining techniques.

Junior Art Trail
A free, fun tour through the Gallery, designed for 3-5 years olds. Children will explore art works through story-telling, art making, songs and games with the Junior Art Trail team.
When: Second Friday of every month – 10.00am to 11.00am
Bookings Essential: places limited to 12 children aged 3 – 5. Parents and guardians are required to attend however, you do not need to book a spot for yourself.
Our 2023 program of Trails will include Thinking Through Pink, Languages of the Land and Coomaditchie: The Art of Place exhibitions.
