SCHOOL HOLIDAY WORKSHOPS
Wollongong Art Gallery provides workshops and activities for children aged 5 to 14 years during school holidays in January, July and October. Artist-run activities include experimentation and investigation of various media in a casual and fun environment.
These workshops change regularly and sell out quickly, so book online early.

SUMMER SCHOOL HOLIDAY WORKSHOP PROGRAM:
Under the Sea (Mixed media) for 5-8 year olds
16 January 2018 10-12pm
Get lost in the big deep blue while making art! Students will learn about creatures that live under the sea. Using paper plates as a base, students will receive a range of materials to create a turtle, jelly fish, crab or fish.

Keith Haring Inspired Paper Collage (collage) for 5-8 year olds
16 January 2018 1.30-3.00pm
Keith Haring was an American graffiti artist who used bright, simple images and text to grab the attention of his viewers. Students will learn about Haring's famous symbolic artworks to create their own brightly coloured paper collages.

Recycled Cardboard Sculptures (sculpture) for 9-14 year olds
17 January 2018 10.00-3.00pm (Full Day)
Students must bring their own morning tea and lunch
Using recycled cardboard, students will learn building and joining techniques to create their own cardboard sculpture. Sculptures can be wall hangings, building, portraits or animals. Colour can be added by painting or by adding coloured paper to decorate.

Self-Portrait with Pet (painting) for 9-14 year olds

Students must bring their ownmorning tea and lunch
Icons have been around for a long time. Some say as early as the 3rd century and have been used in diverse cultures. Almost everthing in an icom has a special and symbolic quality. They traditionally feature a painting of a person, surrounded in a gold or silver background. In this workshop, students will learn how to paint a self-portrait on canvas and how to apply gold or silver leaf. Students may also incorporate their pets into their portraits, and other symbols unique to them.

Miro Bookmarks (mixed media) for 5-8 year olds
19 January 2018 10,00-12.00pm
Joan Miro was a Spanish painter who was part of the Surrealism movement. Miro is well known for his painted "dream picturs" and "imaginary landscapes". In this workshop, studens will create their own imaginary landscapes when designing their own bookmark.

Pop Art portraits (drawing) for 5-8 year olds
19 January 2018 1.30-3.30pm
Students will learn about Pop Artists Andy Warhol and Roy Lictenstein when creating their own self-portraits. Portraits will be drawn onto large paper and will include crazy, colourful patterns in the background.

ART SMART - After School Art Program
ART SMART is an introductory course for primary school children who want to improve their artistic skills through a range of fun and stimulating exercises. ART SMART nurtures the exploration of individual creativity and expression through structured lesson plans outside the classroom context. All lessons are taught by our specialist primary school art teacher.

JUNIOR ART TRAIL
A fun tour through the Gallery designed for 3-5 year olds. Children will explore art works through story-telling, art making, songs and games with the Junior Art Trail team. The trail will end with a tea party in the Gallery’s toy kitchen, a chance for the children to play, interact and re-fuel.
When: Second Friday of every month, 10 - 10.45am
Dates: 10 February, 10 March, 12 May, 9 June, 14 July, 11 August, 8 September, 13 October, 10 November and 8 December 2017
Bookings essential: places limited to 12 children aged 3-5 years and their carers.
The Trail is followed by morning tea from 10.45 - 11.15am. This is not provided - please bring your own packed morning tea to have in the Gallery at the end of the tour. For bookings and enquiries phone 4227 8500.
