Primary School Workshops

Students from Kindergarten through to Year 6 can create their own art in a fun and engaging learning environment with our primary education workshops.

Our skilled facilitators will help students experiment with a particular technique and medium, based on current exhibitions or units of work being taught in class.

Workshops run for around 60 minutes but if you need to adjust the length, please talk to us.

The Gallery also offers an Enrichment Program for students with a greater interest in arts to enhance their skills and develop a deeper understanding of visual arts.

Booking information

Minimum students: 10

Maximum workshop size: 20

If your group is bigger than 20, please let us know. We can organise alternate options, including rotating the workshop with another activity such as a tour of current exhibitions (tours are free).

Most workshops cost $12 per student. Ceramics workshops cost an additional $11 per student for materials (not including firing).

In line with new Education Department policy, you will need to pre-pay by credit card. We will email you payment information when your workshop date and numbers are confirmed. Please note we cannot change numbers after an invoice has been generated.

Please contact us at least four weeks before your visit.

If your request is accepted, we'll send you a booking confirmation with information to help your visit.

Once payment is made we'll send a confirmation, along with Council's risk assessments covering safety while at the Gallery.

Arriving

Allow 5 -10 minutes at the beginning of your visit for the Gallery introductions. Please be punctual as tours and workshops are scheduled for specific times. Late arrivals may result in a reduction in the number of artworks viewed and the shortening of practical workshops.

Please report to Gallery front desk and advise Gallery staff of your arrival. The Gallery Guides and / or Education Officer will meet you in the foyer area.

Bag checking

Bags must be checked in. Gallery staff will advise where to leave bags. Please make sure students have all they need with them (including medication) before they move into the Gallery’s exhibition or workshop spaces.

Art diaries, worksheets and lead pencils

Students are encouraged to bring art books to make notes and reflections in. For unaccompanied and self-directed tours, if you have prepared worksheets for class activities, clipboards and lead pencils are available for students to use. Please advise numbers in advance.

Please note

We have a minimal waste policy and ask that packaging of food items brought to the Gallery are minimised.
