Horny Sticks and Whispering Lines

2 December - 3 March 2024

Gallery 1

Horny Sticks and Whispering Lines includes work from the Gallery Collection, plus works borrowed from private collectors and other institutions. This exhibition displays a diverse range of Ian’s inimitable, finely tuned and considered work which was replete with intelligence, lyricism, and irreverent humour.

Ian Gentle exhibited extensively throughout his life, with over fifteen solo exhibitions and more than thirty group exhibitions and with his last exhibition being at WAG in 1982.

Gentle’s work is represented in many public and private collections, and he was the recipient of numerous awards, grants, and residencies. This exhibition provides a long overdue opportunity to revisit the work of this unique and gifted artist and present his work for new audiences to appreciate.
